Strategy Approaches Milestone 100th Bitcoin Acquisition, Saylor Suggests

Since beginning its Bitcoin accumulation strategy in August 2020, the digital asset treasury company Strategy has acquired 717,131 Bitcoin through 99 separate transactions.

Nearly six years since initiating its Bitcoin acquisition strategy in 2020, Strategy, the digital asset treasury company led by Michael Saylor, appears poised to execute its 100th Bitcoin purchase based on recent signals from its chairman.

On Saturday, Saylor took to X to share a screenshot displaying a chart sourced from StrategyTracker, a characteristic action that typically signals an imminent Bitcoin acquisition, accompanied by the caption: "The Orange Century."

According to information available on the company's official website, Strategy has completed a cumulative total of 99 Bitcoin acquisitions since initiating its buying program in 2020, which means the forthcoming purchase will mark its 100th transaction.

Despite facing difficult market dynamics in 2026, Strategy has demonstrated unwavering commitment to its accumulation strategy. The company has executed Bitcoin purchases for 12 consecutive weeks, and should it proceed with another acquisition this week, that streak would extend to 13.

The company's current Bitcoin holdings stand at 717,131 BTC, acquired at an average purchase price of $76,027 per coin. The company's cost basis has recently moved into negative territory due to Bitcoin's declining price, with the cryptocurrency trading at approximately $64,700 as of this writing.

Transformations following Strategy's inaugural BTC acquisition

Once a skeptic of Bitcoin, Saylor emerged as the catalyst behind the company's inaugural Bitcoin acquisition, which amounted to $250 million in August 2020.

The company entered the Bitcoin market with the strategic intent of utilizing BTC as a hedge against inflation and as a store of value mechanism to safeguard the company's treasury assets. This strategic pivot also formed part of broader efforts to optimize and preserve shareholder value across extended time horizons.

In the span of almost six years following its initial acquisition, Strategy has risen to become the globe's largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder. The company's approach has sparked a wave of adoption, motivating numerous other companies to implement comparable strategies and transition toward becoming digital asset treasury organizations.

Data sourced from Yahoo Finance reveals that Strategy's stock price has surged by approximately 950% from the time of its initial purchase in 2020, climbing from roughly $12.44 to $131.05 as of the current moment.
