Son of custody firm CEO detained by FBI in connection with $46M cryptocurrency heist allegations
In a social media post, FBI Director Kash Patel shared images showing John Daghita in handcuffs, alongside photographs of confiscated materials such as currency, USB drives, a mobile device, and equipment that appears to be crypto hardware wallets.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States has announced that an individual has been apprehended in connection with the alleged theft of cryptocurrency valued at over $46 million from the US Marshals Service.
FBI Director Kash Patel revealed through a post on X this Thursday that federal agents had taken John Daghita into custody. Daghita is the son of Dean Daghita, who serves as president of Command Services & Support (CMDSS). The younger Daghita allegedly obtained unauthorized access to cryptocurrency wallets that were being managed as part of the federal asset protection program. According to Patel's statement, the apprehension operation was executed jointly by the FBI and the "French Gendarmerie's premier elite tactical unit" on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin.

The FBI director's social media post featured an image showing Daghita in handcuffs, and was accompanied by an additional photograph displaying a suitcase filled with cash, multiple USB thumb drives, a mobile phone, and three devices that appear to be Trezor hardware wallets. Patel did not reveal in his statement whether authorities had successfully recovered any portion of the stolen cryptocurrency funds.
The cryptocurrency theft allegation first came to light in January through a report by internet investigator ZachXBT, who stated that he had successfully traced a digital wallet associated with Daghita that contained approximately $23 million in cryptocurrency assets linked to roughly $90 million that was reportedly confiscated by US government authorities during 2024 and 2025. At that time, the US Marshals Service acknowledged that it had launched an investigation into the matter.
This is a developing story, and further information will be added as it becomes available.
